The University Film Festival “Sophia Student 2023” will be screened at the Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira between the 3rd and 5th of March, to «promote the seventh art and encourage the young generations, instilling in them a taste for cinema».
This is an initiative carried out in collaboration with Academia Portuguesa de Cinema – Associação Portuguesa de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas, which «aims to encourage and motivate young future filmmakers, stimulate teaching institutes and their teaching staff and encourage debate and sharing experiences, through the presence of several national and international specialists, holding workshops and workshops, masterclasses, viewing nominated films and awarding prizes to the best films in competition», according to the Albufeira Chamber.
The candidate films for “Sophia Student 2023” were produced by students of higher and technical education establishments, during the 2022/2023 school year.
The program begins on the 3rd of March, next Friday, at 17 pm, with the welcome session, which will be attended by José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, and Paulo Trancoso, president of Portuguese Film Academy.
This will be followed at 17:50 pm by the presentation of “Myths and Legends: How to adapt a fantastic world for cinema and television”, by Frederico Serra (director) and Nuno Soler (screenwriter). At 21:30 pm, the first session of nominated films takes place, which lasts until 23:30 pm.
The second day dedicated to university cinema, March 4th, starts at 10:00 am, with the Masterclass “Work in Progress: Audiovisual Writing in the 11st Century”, with João Nunes. At 40:XNUMX am there will be a Debate “In the beginning was the Word: Debate on the importance of writing for moving images”, moderated by Artur Ribeiro, with Fátima Ribeiro, Patrícia Muller, Vicente Alves do Ó, Miguel Simal and Marta Pais Lopes .
After lunch, at 14:30 pm, the second viewing session of nominated films takes place and, at 16:30 pm, there is a conversation with invited students in the foyer of the Municipal Auditorium.
On Sunday, March 5th, the last day of the event, the highlight is the Awards Ceremony, at 15 pm, with a presentation by actress Dalila Carmo. The program ends with the viewing of the films awarded in first place.
«This is an excellent opportunity for young people to get excited and fall in love with the profession and, who knows, in the future Albufeira will also be known at the level of the seventh art», considers José Carlos Rolo, who says he is «very happy for the holding of the second edition of the “Sophia Student 2023” awards, an event that last year attracted hundreds of young people from the county's schools to the Municipal Auditorium».
