The body will meet quarterly

Lagos will have, from 2023 onwards, a Municipal Council dedicated to the environment and climate change.

This new advisory body of the municipality "aims to promote debate and reflection on relevant topics in environmental matters, namely with regard to the follow-up, promotion and monitoring of the Municipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change", says the Municipality.

The body will meet quarterly and will be made up of representatives of 19 entities linked to the areas of environment, nature, forests, energy, land use planning, education and higher education, agriculture and fisheries, civil protection, trade and tourism, among others.

«The implementation of this structure comes at a time when – whether due to prolonged periods of drought, or due to the greater occurrence of extreme phenomena, such as the recent heavy rains and the massive damage caused – the effects of changes are being felt. climate change and becoming aware of the need to adapt public policies and create a culture of adaptation that involves the whole of society, replicating good practices locally», concludes the municipality.
