Manuel Pizarro, Minister of Health, assured this Friday, 4 November, on a visit to the Hospital de Faro, that the launch of the competition for the Hospital Central do Algarve will take place «in 2023».

After opening in the morning the “new” Hospital Terras do Infante, in Lagos, the official visited, during the afternoon, the Hospital of Faro, where he was again questioned by journalists about the progress of the Hospital Central do Algarve.

The work, long desired in the region, returned to day order, after, at the end of September, the Council of Ministers published a resolution in which the process is restarted.

The commitment, defended the minister today, “is assumed”. And what about dates?

Manuel Pizarro, similarly to what happened in Lagos, did not want to commit to specific deadlines, but left a guarantee: «the process will develop with news in 2023 and with the launch of the tender in 2023».

Moreover, the Minister of Health said that he will announce a timetable when he is sure that “there is no flaw”.

“I plan to do it in the coming months and I guarantee that it will not fail so that the Hospital becomes a reality as quickly as possible”, he added.

In Manuel Pizarro's opinion, the construction of the Central Hospital is «vital for the region».

“We cannot have scheduling problems again”, he concluded.
