VRSA sports complex gains digital study room

Valencia resulted from the cooperation between the Sports Foundation, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and the Municipality of VRSA

The High Performance Center of Vila Real de Santo António, located in the Municipal Sports Complex, opened this Saturday, November 5, a Digital Study Room.

The valence resulted from a cooperation project developed between the Sports Foundation, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and the Municipality of VRSA, as part of the strategy of qualification and attractiveness of these sports infrastructures aimed at the promotion of high performance sport.

In addition, a collaboration protocol was signed between the Sports Foundation, the CAR/Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António and the Association of Olympic Athletes of Portugal (AAOP), which allows the members of these organizations access to the CAR of VRSA and recognizes the association as a relevant sports agent in the promotion of these specialized infrastructures.

According to the Municipality, the AAOP is thus committed to promoting the VRSA CAR and developing activities in favor of the community in areas such as the promotion of citizenship and human rights, education, culture, science, sport and youth associations.

In this context, it was already agreed between the AAOP and the Municipality of VRSA to develop an educational project in schools in the municipality to promote sporting activity as a vehicle for promoting school success.

The ceremonies were attended by Álvaro Araújo, Mayor of VRSA, Álvaro Leal, Councilor responsible for Sports, Paulo Frischknecht, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sports Foundation, Paulo Marcolino, Executive Director of the Sports Foundation, Luís Monteiro, president of AAOP, Nuno Pires, director of the Sponsorship Unit of the SCML Games Department, Custódio Morena, regional director of the Portuguese Institute for Sports and Youth (IPDJ), among other representatives of these bodies.

During the initiatives, Álvaro Araújo also announced that requalification works are planned on the athletics track, in the launch area and in the changing rooms so that the VRSA CAR can accommodate the preparation of athletes who will participate in the Olympic project “Paris 2024”.

In 2015, the Sports Foundation of Vila Real de Santo António was integrated into the national network of High Performance Sports Centres, with a focus on athletics, judo, football, triathlon and swimming.

The High Performance Centers are a network of sports infrastructures with specialized skills and oriented towards research, improvement and training of high performance practitioners or national teams and aim to promote the development of various sports according to international standards.
