Monchique City Council is renewing the municipal fleet

One of the cars to be replaced was the «presidency car», which was already over 20 years old

Monchique City Council announced today the acquisition of new vehicles in order to create better working conditions and improve service provision to the population.

The current municipal executive, presided over by Paulo Alves, stresses that one of its objectives is «the requalification, renovation and replacement of fixed assets in order to improve operating conditions and response, thus reducing the high costs of maintenance and repairs, considering that the vehicles and equipment were already obsolete and outdated».

Thus, during this first year of office, three vehicles and equipment have already been purchased (MSW/garbage collection vehicle, double cabin triple-tipping vehicle and tar cutting machine), this number being now updated, with the acquisition/rent of three more vehicles.

One of the new vehicles is precisely the «presidency vehicle», which «has now been replaced by another, acquired in operational leasing (renting) for four years, this time a light hybrid vehicle, energy and ecologically efficient». The old vehicle «had been registered for 20 years and had high maintenance costs».

School transport was also benefited with the purchase of a 17-seater van (used) that will allow for the redefinition of routes and timetables, serving 320 children and young people in the municipality, on different routes, including inter-municipal routes. The Chamber points out that the «technical and logistical needs» of this van «reflect the municipal activity regarding the transport sector».

A vehicle with a crane was also acquired for transporting forest/green areas, «the need for which had already been identified a long time ago by the teams and which is now supplied with this acquisition».
