Guided visits to Amália's holiday home, near Brejão, a conversation with journalist Miguel Carvalho about his book “Amália – Dictatorship and Revolution”, an open-air mass and even a fado show. It is with these activities, scheduled for the 8th of October, that Fundação Amália and the Municipality of Odemira will once again honor the great fado singer. Entries are free.

This is the “Odemira Recorda Amália Rodrigues” initiative, whose program includes guided visits to Amália's holiday home, near the town of Brejão, in the parish of São Teotónio, which will take place between 11:00 am and 18:30 pm.

Journalist Miguel Carvalho is the guest of Fundação Amália for a conversation about his book “Amália – Dictatorship and Revolution”, starting at 16 pm. This work is the result of an investigation that “crosses two regimes, several continents and brings together close to a hundred exclusive interviews and testimonies, unpublished recordings of the fado singer and personalities who lived with her, thousands of pages of never-before-revealed documents, as well as letters and unknown photographs of the singer.”

During the afternoon, at 16:50 pm, there will be a Campal Mass in honor of Amália Rodrigues, in the garden of the estate, presided over by Father Júlio Lemos.

The day dedicated to Amália Rodrigues ends with a fado show, starting at 17:30 pm, with Ana Sofia Marques, accompanied on Portuguese guitar by Gonçalo Rosa and viola by Bruno Davide.

The initiative is organized by the Amália Foundation in partnership with the Municipality of Odemira and with the support of the São Teotónio Parish Council and the Brejão Cultural Center, with the collaboration of Herdade Amália Rodrigues.

“Odemira Recorda Amália Rodrigues” is a symbolic event that celebrates the life and work of the fado singer and brings together, once again, the Foundation and the community of Brejão.

«The fado singer and her husband, César, had a strong connection to the place that they considered as a “holiday refuge” and where they spent long periods, maintaining a close relationship with the municipality and being very cherished by the population», recalls the Câmara de Odemira .
