Cultural, sporting and religious events mark Lagos Municipality Day

This Thursday, October 27th

Protocol ceremonies, cultural and sporting events, visits and religious celebrations make up the program of celebrations for the Day of the Municipality of Lagos, which is celebrated this Thursday, October 27, in honor of its patron saint, São Gonçalo de Lagos.

The celebrations begin at 9:30 am, in Praça Gil Eanes, with the ceremony of Hastear das Bandeiras, with hymns performed by the Banda da Sociedade Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1º de Maio and Grupo Coral de Lagos and pigeons starting.

Then there is a guided tour of the history of the city and its patron saint and, at 11:30 am, in the Church of Santa Maria, a Mass will be celebrated in honor of S. Gonçalo de Lagos, presided over by D. Manuel Quintas, Bishop of the Algarve, following the inauguration of the Bust of D. José Sebastião d'Almeida Neto (Cardeal Neto) took place.

The afternoon is marked by the solemn session, to take place at the Lagos Cultural Center, from 15:30 pm, where several personalities of the Lacobrigense community will be honored.

At 18:00 the opening of the exhibition on the life and work of São Gonçalo de Lagos takes place. The program also includes some suggestions for visits, to be held on the 27th, to municipal museum facilities (free admission) and to the Lagos Zoo, an entity that
associates with this event, offering free admission for children up to 4 years of age and a 50% discount for other residents of the municipality.

Also noteworthy on the 28th is the international colloquium “Reason, Nature and Causality: from Portuguese experientialism to the genesis of Modernity”, organized jointly by the Municipality of Lagos and the Portuguese Catholic University.

Between the 28th and 30th of October, other commemorative activities are scheduled.
