It is the «biggest edition ever» and, for the first time, will pass through three municipalities. The Algarve Music Series, chamber music cycle, is back to bring music to the region until the 22nd of October.

The festival is organized by cellist Isabel Vaz and pianist Vasco Dantas who spoke with the Sul Informação more about this edition.

The fact that, this year, the Algarve Music Series will expand to Loulé and Tavira is seen with very good eyes.

«That has always been our objective: to be in more places, which even matches the name “Algarve” that we have in the name», explained Isabel Vaz.

The cycle has already begun, with a concert that brought together Vasco Dantas and Isabel Vaz, on the 3rd of September, at the inauguration of the renovated Igreja Matriz de Loulé, but, until the 22nd of October, there is much to hear.

«What we always try is to have an interesting and challenging program», summarized Isabel Vaz.

On the 4th, the “Routes” concert will take place at 21 pm, with free admission, at Igreja do Carmo (Faro).

The show will feature the participation of a string quartet from Cologne (Germany) who, in addition to traditional music, will perform Bach and Vivaldi.

The very next day (5), at 19:00, at Teatro Lethes (Faro), it will be possible to listen to one of the most promising pianists today: Congyu Wang.

Hailing from Singapore, the musician will perform Chopin's first piano concerto. The interpreter will be accompanied by a string quintet, composed of Tim Brackman, Miguel Simões (violins), Floor Le Coultre (viola), Mikhail Shumov (cello) and Bruno Carneiro (double bass).

On the 6th, from 19:00, it will be possible to discover the “Projecto Sefarad” – Sephardic music, arranged for piano (Filipe Raposo) and choir (Coro ECCE), directed by Paulo Lourenço. Entrance to the concert, which will take place at Colégio do Alto (Faro), is free, but subject to prior reservation, via email to [email protected].

Saint Peter's Church (Faro) hosts, on the 7th, at 21 pm, a concert that presents the Goldberg Variations by Bach, in an arrangement for string trio. The musicians will be Tim Brackman, Floor Le Coultre and Isabel Vaz.

On the 13th of October, pianist Vasco Dantas will perform at Club Farense, under the motto “From Water to Wine”, in a recital with tasting of Douro wines – Vinhos Piano, Carlos Alonso.

The ticket price is 10 euros, a value that goes down to two euros for Club Farense members. Reservations can be made by emailing [email protected] or calling 289824219.

This recital will be repeated at Quintinha da Música, in Tavira, on the 16th of October, at 16:00. Admission will cost 20 euros and includes a wine tasting and snacks. Reservations can be made at [email protected].

On October 14th, also at Club Farense, Francisco Rita presents the piano recital “Heróis do Mar, da Pintura à Música”, with music composed by the interpreter. The concert will be commented by himself.

The ticket costs 8 euros (for the general public) and 5 for Club Farense members. Reservations are made via the email address [email protected] or the telephone number 289824219.

The plastic artist Isolino Vaz, whose centenary is being celebrated this year (1922-2022), will be honored on the 15th, at 21:00, at the Ginásio Clube de Faro, in a cello and piano recital. The painter's daughter, Isabel Vaz, will play the cello and Vasco Dantas will play the piano.

Entrance costs €8 for the general public and €5 for members. Reservations must be made through the address ginasioclubefaro@ gmail.com.

The last concert of the month of October will be again at Clube Farense, on the 21st, at 21:00, in a piano recital dedicated to the music of Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, performed by the German pianist and pedagogue Heribert Koch.

Finally, the Algarve Music Series ends in Loulé, with a concert on the 21st of November, at a time to be confirmed, at Cineteatro Louletano.

In honor of the writer José Saramago, the Algarve Music Series will present a show inspired by the work “As Intermitências da Morte”, which features actress Catarina Wallenstein and text by Pedro Braga Falcão.

The music is by Franz Schubert – String Quintet in C major, performed by André Gaio Pereira, Tomás Soares, Diede Verpoest, Beatriz Raimundo and Isabel Vaz.

As can be seen, the festival's program is vast, which means that the organization is «very expectant» in relation to this edition.

«We hope to have all the concerts full and that we can see faces already known, among the public, of people who have been to the festival in recent years», said Vasco Dantas to our newspaper.

It's just that, added Isabel Vaz, the “Algarve Music Series” is already starting to make a name for itself.

“We feel that people already know us and that this is a special event”, he concluded.
