Ferragudo: Young people who set fire to the garden of D. Duarte's house were identified

The fire was put out in half an hour and only caused damage to the garden.

Three young minors suspected of having started, on the afternoon of this Friday, the 22nd, a fire in the garden of the house of D. Duarte de Bragança, next to Praia Grande (Ferragudo), were identified by the Maritime Police.

The fire, which consumed a small area of ​​the garden, in front of the swimming pool, was promptly fought by a helicopter, which supplied water in the Arade estuary, right in front of the house and in front of the hundreds of bathers who were in Praia Grande.

According to the National Maritime Authority, “following an alert received at 15:32 pm, through the GNR of Lagoa, informing of the outbreak of a fire near Praia Grande, elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão were activated to the scene” , who, upon arrival, «received information of the presence of three young people suspected of setting the fire».

The minors, whose ages are not mentioned by the AMN, were taken to the premises of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão, where they were identified. Their parents were then contacted.

The house is located on the cliff next to Praia Grande, and the authorities feared that it could spread to the pine forest and the adjacent hotel. But the fire was promptly attacked and put out in half an hour.

Five vehicles from the Volunteer Firefighters of Lagoa, Silves and Portimão, a GNR vehicle and a helicopter were involved in fighting the fire, and the fire was extinguished at 16:00. The Judiciary Police went to the scene to carry out investigations.

The local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took care of the occurrence, and the case was referred to the PJ.
