Commitment to sustainability earns certification for Vilalara Thalassa Resort, in Porches

Hotel uses sea water in its pools

Vilalara Thalassa Resort, located in Porchers, in the municipality of Lagoa, was recognized with the Biosphere certification, the first distinction dedicated to the tourism sector to respond to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Vilalara Thalassa Resort, «one of the most exclusive five-star resorts in the Algarve, which integrates one of the five best Thalassotherapy Centers in the world», assumed «its commitment to sustainability by implementing the best practices to respond to the global challenges that the world faces. and on which it has the possibility to act: in its strategy and operation», highlights the enterprise.

This commitment was audited and awarded the Biosphere Certified seal, which is awarded after verifying that sustainable practices are being implemented correctly.

«The use of a recharge system to supply personal hygiene products, which reduces the use of plastic and transport, and the use of water extracted from the sea for three of its outdoor pools and treatment pools, which translates into savings in fresh water, such a scarce resource, especially in the Algarve region, are just two examples of existing practices at Vilalara Thalassa Resort», highlights the hotel.

The seal «acts as a guarantee that the organization is fulfilling its commitments to protect the environment and future generations, giving greater credibility and confidence to its guests», he adds.

For Robert Neves, general manager of Vilalara Thalassa Resort, “awareness of our impact on nature is a daily concern, and it is no less important when booking our holidays. Sustainability is the watchword, and in tourism, our visitors seek to mitigate its impact on the place and region visited. For that, they look for accommodation and restaurants that have these sustainable practices, with carbon neutrality being their objective».

The official considers that “the partnership with Biosphere has helped us in the process of implementing good practices associated with sustainability, as well as highlighting the sustainable practices already implemented on the property”.

Being an independent entity «and having audits that will scrutinize the implementation of the implemented sustainable measures, the degree of trust with the traveler is reinforced», concludes Robert Neves.
