191 firefighters are fighting a fire that broke out at 23:30 pm this Tuesday, July 12, in Gambelas (Faro), near the Campus of the University of Algarve (UAlg). During the night, the flames progressed to the Ludo area, away from the Biker Concentration, and the authorities are now awaiting the entry into action of the air assets.
Ao Sul Informação, A source from the Algarve Regional Civil Protection Command explained that the flames are consuming an area of «bush and pine forest».
Although there were no houses at risk, it was necessary, during the night, to evacuate a «motorhome camp» that was in the line of fire.
At the beginning of this morning, the head of the fire is «stabilised», but the wind remains one of the «main difficulties».
The authorities are now awaiting the arrival of air resources – around 8:00 am, 8:30 am – to help control this fire, which is being fought by 191 firefighters and 70 vehicles.
