Transfer of competences: Silves and Vidigueira between communist chambers that demand reinforcement of funds

Five municipalities with CDU executives met with the president of ANMP

The mayors of Silves, Seixal, Alcácer do Sal, Avis and Vidigueira, all of them led by CDU executives, demanded "measures to reinforce funds from the Government with regard to the transfer of powers to the Municipal Bodies", in a meeting they had with the president of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP).

The five mayors argue that “the insufficiency of funds to be transferred by the Government in the areas of Education, Health and Social Action, jeopardizes the financial sustainability of the municipalities, not guaranteeing the desired reinforcement of the public service in these 3 vital areas for Portuguese society” .

In this way, the municipalities consider that it is "urgent for a more prominent intervention by the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities in the defense of the interests of Democratic Local Power, of its autonomy and carrying capacity, as well as of the public service and social functions of the State in the areas of Education, Health and Social Action».

This requirement “takes into account the need to provide the municipalities with funds appropriate to the real needs identified within the framework of the transferred competences”.

The mayors also argue that it is necessary to ensure “the requalification of hundreds of 2/3 and secondary schools, to provide for the construction of new schools, to guarantee the entire legal process and the respective ratios of workers, namely in the area of education, to be published the missing legislation and ordinances and to guarantee procedures for the transfer of buildings and assets».
