Praia da Rocha: Chamber wants video surveillance and more police

Municipality advances with video surveillance and PSP intervention body

The Portimão City Council announced this Tuesday, June 21, that it will proceed with video surveillance in Praia da Rocha and that the PSP Intervention Corps will also be reinforced. 

The announcement comes on the day the CNN Portugal released images of the destruction of a bar in Praia da Rocha by a group of young tourists.

«During this week, the contract will be signed for the installation of video surveillance in the municipality of Portimão, in particular in Praia da Rocha, where it is planned to install 32 cameras in various areas of this seaside resort, namely along Avenida Tomás Cabreira», where most of the bars are located, stresses the municipality in a statement.

In addition to this measure, the Minister of Internal Administration, Isilda Gomes, also guaranteed that, as of this Tuesday, the PSP Intervention Corps will remain in Praia da Rocha.

«It should be noted that, given the large increase in tourists that has been verified, this is an important reinforcement and will certainly be a guarantor of public order», says the Portimão City Council.

In a statement, the municipality also appeals to entrepreneurs in this area, especially those in bars and nightlife establishments, for "scrupulous compliance with the of  schedules de operation, thus preventing them from having de be reduced'.

The Chamber also calls for “the conduct and rules for the sale of alcohol to be strictly enforced”.
