Albufeira remains the Algarve municipality with the most refugees from Ukraine

42.151 temporary protections were granted nationwide

Albufeira is the sixth municipality at national level and the first in the Algarve in terms of granting temporary protections to Ukrainian citizens and foreigners residing in that country, announced the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).

According to this Service, since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, 42.151 temporary protections have been granted throughout the country. Of these, 26.620 are women and 15.531 are men.

The municipalities with the highest number of temporary protections granted continue to be Lisbon (7.646), Cascais (2.635), Porto (1.630), Sintra (1.495) and Albufeira (1.168).

As for certificates of residence permit under the temporary protection regime, containing user health, social security and tax identification numbers attributed by the respective entities, the SEF has already issued 37.881.

In relation to minors, who represent 12.743 of the total of 42.151 temporary protections granted, according to Portuguese legislation, there are two categories: accompanied and unaccompanied.

Thus, in terms of registration and protection of minors, the SEF proceeds as follows: in the case of the child accompanied by a parent or proven legal representative, there is no request for intervention from any other entity.

In the case of an unaccompanied child, in the presence of a person other than the parent or proven legal representative, but without current or imminent danger, there is a communication to the Public Ministry (MP) of the geographical area of ​​residence declared to the SEF, for the appointment of a legal representative and possible promotion of a process for the protection of the minor.

In the case of an unaccompanied child, in the presence of a person other than the parent or proven legal representative, but in actual or imminent danger to life or serious impairment of the physical or psychological integrity of the child or young person, contact is immediately made. the Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ) in the area of ​​competence, to adopt urgent procedures and provide appropriate assistance.

Finally, explains the SEF, in the case of a minor unaccompanied and left to himself, this child is considered to be in current or imminent danger and the CPCJ in the area of ​​competence is immediately contacted to adopt urgent procedures and provide the appropriate assistance.

Since the beginning of the conflict, the SEF has already communicated to the MP 731 minors who presented themselves in the presence of someone other than their parent or proven legal representative, without current or imminent danger.

15 unaccompanied minors and/or in the presence of people other than their parents or proven legal representatives, in actual or imminent danger, were reported to the CPCJ.
