Monchique Hiking Festival has registration open until the 3rd

Hiking for all tastes and varying degrees of preparation, on the 10th, 11th and 12th of June

“Along the water paths” is the motto of the 2nd Monchique Hiking Festival, which will take place over the long weekend from the 10th to the 12th of June, with activities for all types of hikers and different ages.

An 8-kilometer walk along the «Caminhos de Outrara», another along the Cascatas Trail (PR5 MCQ), of 12 kilometers (short version) or 17 km (long), the Caminho das Caldas à Picota (PR2 MCQ), with 18 km , the Moinhos trail (PR4), with 9,6 km, a pedestrian path in Marmelete (PR6), with 8,4 km, a walk through Cerro do Castelo de Alferce (9 km), another along the Adelfeira Route, Relíquia da Laurissilva Continental (8 km), a 6,8 km Fóia Trail, but traveled at night, are some of the program's suggestions, which can consult by clicking here.

Of one thing you can be sure: because it is a festival in the mountains, there are no easy hikes, the least are those of a “moderate” degree. Going up and down the streets or paths of Monchique has to be told, but it's always a pleasure.

There will also be initiatives thinking about the youngest and their family, such as the Storyteller, Science in the Garden animated by the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, the Peddy-Paper “Exploring the Water around us”, or even, closing the first day, an Astronomical Observation, also promoted by CCV Lagos, which promises “the moon in its splendor, the constellations and their stories, the sky and its mysteries. With our eyes on the sky, we will explore every visible star». It will be from 21 pm to midnight, at the Miradouro de S. Sebastião (next to the Tourist Office).

If you really want to participate, the best thing is to hurry up and register, because the process is not easy, as you can see here, and the deadline ends on the 3rd of June.

Some of the tours are paid (albeit at festival prices) and registrations must be made directly with the nature tourism companies that promote and guide them. Registration for the free activities is made to the email [email protected].

The Monchique Hiking Festival is an event integrated in the annual calendar of AWS – Algarve Walking Season, a regional project to jointly promote hiking festivals in the Algarve, and in the Project “Revitalize Monchique – Tourism as a catalyst“, financed by Turismo de Portugal.

The Festival, promoted by the Municipality of Monchique, has as co-promoters the Algarve Tourism Region, the Algarve Tourism Association and the Almargem Association.
