Albufeira Chamber supports Volunteer Firefighters with 400 thousand euros

The support serves to provide an operational response for the protection of people and property

This Wednesday, May 25, Albufeira City Council allocated 400 thousand euros to the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters (AHBV), following the existing protocol between both institutions.

According to the municipality, this support will allow firefighters to “keep the operational response for the protection and help of people, and for the heritage and environment of the municipality”.

Due to Covid-19, AHBV “suffered great financial difficulties, as a result of the decrease in the transport of non-urgent patients, the restrictions on holding events to raise revenue, the sharp decrease in individual and corporate donations, among others”, explains the Chamber.

The situation is further aggravated “by the expense of personal protective equipment, disinfection material, salary increases, increases in structural costs and fuel increases”.

«We seek to support an institution of absolute value to the city, as well as the professionals who work in it, since they have been excellent in responding to the demands of the population, even during these atypical years», says José Carlos Rolo, Mayor .
