Albufeira marks International Museum Day with a conference on Portugal in World War II

Albufeira will mark the International Museum Day, which is celebrated on the 18th of May, with a conference entitled “Portugal in World War II – the quay of Europe”. 

The conference takes place at 10:00 am at the Secondary School of Albufeira and at 16:00 pm at the Municipal Museum of Archeology, with free admission.

The speaker will be Carlos Guerreiro, a member of the “RTP Teaches” team, who will speak about Lisbon at a time when the city welcomed refugees, exiles, spies and many artists.

Carlos Guerreiro has a degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Algarve and a master's degree in Maritime History from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon and the Naval School. As a journalist, he collaborated with newspapers, radio and television. At the moment, he works in the “RTP Teaches” program.

In 2008 he published the book “Aterrem em Portugal!” with stories of aviators from belligerent countries who for different reasons had ended their voyages in Portugal during World War II. In addition, he led the search to find refugees for the documentary “Under the Sky” by Nicholas Oulman, premiered in 2018 and contributed to the series “A Espia” that aired on RTP in 2019.

Carlos Guerreiro is also the author of the blog “Aterrem em Portugal!” and creator of the website “Portugal 1939-1945” where you can find stories and information about Portugal during the Second World War.
