Entries for the "biggest Snack Route ever" have already opened

This year there are two novelties: the Memory Route and the Winery Route

After being considered the best gastronomic tourism project in the country, Rota do Petisco has already started preparations for its 12th edition, with the opening of registrations for establishments throughout the region.

«It seems like a lie, but Rota is back!» This is how the event's organizing association, Teia D'Impulsos, announced on Friday (April 1st, April Fools' Day) the official opening of registration for the Rota do Petisco 2022, scheduled from September 14 to October 16 .

Establishments that wish to register have until the 30th of June to do so, in one of the various modalities of the Route.

between a "Snack" or "Regional sweet”, the idea is that the menu presented by each establishment is based on the preparation with local products and recipes inspired by the typical Algarve and Portuguese cuisine.

Each establishment may also choose to present, in addition, a Vegetarian Option to win even more snacks.

On their return, they are also Chefs Route, that is, signature dishes that are expected to be innovative and based on regional products, and the World Route, which offers the possibility to discover and taste flavors from other distant places, taking this gastronomic itinerary even further.

In 11 years of event, Rota do Petisco has always sought to innovate and this year is no exception. «The novelties include the launch of the Memory Route, with the challenge to establishments so that they can recreate traditional snacks from other times, and the Winery Route, where we will entice snacks to discover the cellars and wines of the Algarve», reveals the coordinator of the event, Nuno Vieira.

There is no shortage of ingredients to make this the best edition ever of the event that was considered the National Gastronomic Tourism Award 2021, an initiative of Expresso and BPI.

Nuno Vieira says: «we hope that it will, once again, be an initiative that brings a lot of flavor and animation to the whole Algarve, this year with this added responsibility» of the national recognition of the Rota do Petisco.

After two editions marked by the restrictions of the pandemic, «in 2022, we are working for the biggest Rota de Semper, that can reach the four corners of the Algarve, and that can once again have street entertainment events and other initiatives that color the project», assures the person in charge.

A Solidarity Route, an initiative integrated in the event, also has open registration - until June 9 - for projects of social and solidarity institutions in the Algarve.

The amount of 1,5 euros that petiscadores pay for the Passport that gives access to the Rota do Petisco reverts in full, every year, to the supported projects.

In 2022, the European Year of Youth is celebrated and Teia D'Impulsos decided to make this the central theme of this year's Solidarity Route.

Thus, institutions must present projects in the specific areas of combating social, racial and gender discrimination; promoting youth mental health and youth volunteering.
