Olhão: Civil Protection tested response to accident on Via do Infante

In the simulated scenario, two of the cars were projected off the highway

This Friday, Civil Protection tested the Prior Intervention Plan for Via do Infante (A22), simulating a road accident involving three vehicles.

In the simulated scenario, two of the cars ended up being projected off the highway which, according to the Câmara de Olhão, “increased the degree of difficulty in the response of Civil Protection agents. In all, eight victims had to be assisted.

«The Prior Intervention Plan provides grids in which the corresponding resources are automatically dispatched depending on the severity of the accident», explains Luís Gomes, commander of the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão, the first to arrive at the accident site.

Due to the seriousness of the occurrence, the corporations of Tavira, S. Brás de Alportel, Faro and Loulé, in addition to INEM, GNR and the motorway concessionaire.

For Luís Gomes, the balance of operational training is positive, as it confirmed in practice the promptness of the response and the articulation between the various entities involved in a situation of this nature: «only by training can we identify what we can improve and how we can evolve in the response to this type of occurrence'.

The operations were accompanied by Elsa Parreira, the vice-president of the Chamber of Olhão.
