Which side of Sítio das Fontes do you want to live on?

«We are going through a period of extreme drought and it is important that everyone understands that water is an essential good», says Luís Encarnação

In one of the images, there is a Sítio das Fontes, in Estômbar, with water; in the other, the same tank is dry. “Which side do you want to live on?”, asks the Câmara de Lagoa.

This is the motto of a new awareness campaign to reduce water consumption, launched this Tuesday, March 22, by the Lagos municipality.

The campaign will reach citizens “through billboards, pamphlets that will arrive with water billing letters, through the website and official pages of the municipality, as well as through other means of communication”.

The Municipality of Lagoa, in addition to launching this awareness campaign, «has taken measures that contribute to the reduction of water consumption in the municipality, such as the closure of the municipality's water sources and mirrors, the reduction of the amount of daily watering, in gardens and public spaces, and the reduction of their period, the reduction in the number of washes of the municipal cars, washing them only when strictly necessary, as well as the reduction of washing of the garbage containers», he says.

Added to this is the installation, which has already begun, of «an efficient irrigation control system, in gardens and public spaces, which allows irrigation to be automatically deactivated, whenever the levels of rainfall justify it».

“We are going through a period of extreme drought and it is important that everyone understands that water is an essential commodity, which is increasingly scarce. We have to quickly change our daily habits in order to drastically reduce our water consumption», considers Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa.
