João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) today congratulated the Teia d'Impulsos association for the National Tourism Award, in the «Gastronomic Tourism» category, awarded to its Rota do Petisco.
The event that every year surprises the palate of thousands of people with traditional delicacies was nominated for the awards by the RTA, which now congratulates the promoters for the award received, in recognition of the work carried out in favor of promoting the gastronomy of the Algarve.
«While the importance of gastronomy for a tourist destination is indisputable – around 7 out of 10 tourists make their choice based on the gastronomic offer of a destination, according to the Food Travel Monitor 2020 –, the more indisputable will be the creation of a quality offer that creates in the visitor an authentic sensation of 'tasting' their holiday destination. And that's what the Rota do Petisco provides. This is an initiative that deserves our full support and we sincerely congratulate Teia D'Impulsos for winning this award», says João Fernandes.
The «Career Award» of this edition of the National Tourism Award was awarded to André Jordan, known for his strong contribution to promoting the Algarve as a tourist destination worldwide.
João Fernandes reacts to this distinction saying that «it is with great admiration for the work carried out that I congratulate the one who is considered an unavoidable figure of Tourism in the region and in the country».
The «Rota do Petisco» already has 11 editions carried out and the participation of several municipalities and Algarve restaurants that every year receive thousands of participants ready to embark on the odyssey of snacks, traditional sweets or creations of renowned chefs based on regional products.
Every year, participants in the «Rota do Petisco» are invited to visit the various participating establishments guided by a passport, in which all the stops on the route and the respective special menu prepared for the event are identified.
