PSD prioritizes the reduction of SNS waiting lists in the Algarve

The Party also defends a bet on the expansion of the Continuing Care and Palliative Care network

PSD candidates for the constituency of Faro to the legislative elections they want to «reduce, in a gradual and sustained way, the waiting lists of the National Health Service (SNS) that currently exist in the Algarve.

According to the PSD, nowadays, «according to data from the Ministry of Health, an Algarve person waits 313 days for a Cardiology consultation, 544 days for an Ophthalmology consultation and 583 days for an Orthopedics consultation, at the Hospital de Faro».

In the case of surgical interventions, «in the specialty of Vascular Surgery, the waiting time is 803 days and in Ophthalmology it is necessary to wait 486 days».

“It is not acceptable to wait so long for basic health care. And the PS, which so much touts the SNS, has been leaving the Portuguese, and in particular the Algarve, without access to health care. Those who have money go to the private ones, those who don't have just wait for a consultation and for a surgery, which sometimes doesn't even arrive", says Luís Gomes, PSD candidate for the circle of Faro.

«We have to ensure that every euro spent on health is transformed into an effective improvement in health care», guarantees Luís Gomes.

From 2015 to the end of 2019, before the effects of the pandemic, the number of consultations decreased in the region. «While in October 2015, during the PSD government, 74.539 face-to-face medical consultations had been carried out, in December 2019 only 65.822 consultations had been given.

«The PS likes to say that it has saved the SNS, but it is important to remind the PS and the Government that, here in the Algarve, in 2019, less consultations were given before the pandemic than in 2015, when the PSD was Government», he explains. Luis Gomes.

“It takes seriousness when talking about health, a topic so dear to people. The PS cannot continue and want to deceive the population, because at least here in the Algarve everyone feels the disinvestment in the health sector”, recalls the candidate.

The PSD also defends a commitment to the expansion of the Continuing Care and Palliative Care network that «guarantees a number of beds at the level of the European average, in order to guarantee the long-term health care necessary for chronically ill patients or those at the end of their lives. , particularly to the most vulnerable groups", concludes the party.
