The only case of the Omicron variant in the Algarve is related to an outbreak at Belenenses SAD

The Algarve has only one confirmed case of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, but it is related to the outbreak. detected among Belenenses SAD players, not being aware that the variant has been found in other samples, revealed this Monday, the regional delegate for Health, at press conference.

According to Ana Cristina Guerreiro, “the only case of Omicron in the region is a case related to the Belenenses outbreak. It has been followed up and has had no serious consequences. The person is well, isolated and in the final stage of his illness," he told reporters.

With regard to other possible cases of this variant, which have worried the world, due to the possibility of being more resistant to vaccines and also more contagious, the regional Health delegate added that, for now, they do not exist.

«We periodically send samples of tests carried out in the Algarve, either from private laboratories or from the Laura Ayres Laboratory, to the INSA, for study. And it is not known that the variant was detected in these samples», he guaranteed.
