The 10th edition of the Summer Blue Festival ended in November, but one of the initiatives, the photography exhibition “Faro-West“, by Pauliana Valente Pimentel, sees its date extended and, thus, will then be shown in the Old Carpentry of the Municipal Museum of Faro, until January 23rd.

Opened on the 4th of November, the photographic exhibition “Faro-West” “has already mobilized a wide audience for a new and necessary look at the Roma communities of Loulé and Faro», says the CasaBranca Cultural Association.

According to the Festival Verão Azul website, «in 2019, Pauliana Valente Pimentel began to portray some gypsy families in the Algarve, especially in the Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António areas. What fascinated her was the way they preserved their traditions for centuries, keeping a nomadic record».

The intention of this project was «to portray these communities, expanding the territory to the areas of Faro, Loulé and Boliqueime, namely the camps – Sorcerer's HillSand GardenTop of the Clock and the Monte Joao Preto».

This work «intends to show the daily lives of these families», emphasizing their traditions, with the aim of «combating racist and xenophobic prejudices and stereotypes that they are constantly subjected to», he explains.

The photography exhibition will be open until the 23rd of January, and can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday, from 10:30 am to 17:00 pm.
