Vila Real de Santo António Council expresses regret at the death of Fernando Reis

Fernando Reis was director of Jornal do Algarve

The Vila Real de Santo António City Council expressed, in a public note, its «deepest regret for the death of the director of Jornal do Algarve, Fernando Reis», who died this Saturday, 4 December.

Fernando de Sant'Águeda Gutierres Reis, born on February 5, 1955, in Vila Real de Santo António, has been the director of Jornal do Algarve for almost four decades, from 1983 – in the first years intermittently – until the present.

Graduated in History at the Universidade Clássica de Lisboa in 1980, he was a professor at the Dom José I School, in Vila Real de Santo António. He also taught at schools in Loulé, where he made great friends.

"Illustrious Vilarrealense, prestigious dean of Algarve journalism, convinced regionalist and great defender of the preponderance of the region and of his city in particular", stresses the municipality.

Fernando Reis was married to Maria Luísa Aleixo Travassos and father to Marta Reis and Susana Reis.

The dates of the funeral ceremonies are still unknown.

To the bereaved family, colleagues and friends, the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António «sends our most heartfelt condolences and a profound message of solidarity», he concludes.
