University of the Algarve once again has a higher-than-average placement rate and runs out of 35 courses

Laboratory Biomedical Sciences was the course with the highest average

The University of Algarve (UAlg) once again had, for the second consecutive year, a placement rate above the national average. In total, 35 courses filled the vacancies in the 1st phase, with a total of 1585 students entering the Algarve academy, according to the results released this Sunday, September 26, by the General Directorate of Higher Education.

UAlg's placement rate this year was 90,6%, a figure higher than the national average (89,4%).

This is the second time since 1990 that UAlg's placement rate exceeds 90%: last year it was 92,6%.

Compared to 2020/21, the number of job placements nationwide decreased by 3,0%, from 50.964 to 49.452, with a reduction in the UAlg almost nil (-0,4%), from 1592 to 1585.

The growth in the number of first-choice candidates is also higher than at the national level, with 14,5% in UAlg and 1,7% in the country.

In the last two years, the number of candidates in first-choice courses at UAlg increased by 58,0%.

For the following phases of the National Access Competition, 197 places are available.

O Sul Informação analyzed the data from the various UAlg courses and, in total, 35 were already filled in the first access phase.

They are: Cultural Heritage and Archeology, Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Psychology, Visual Arts, Education and Training Sciences, Communication Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Biology, Marine Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Marine and Coastal Management, Management Business, Sociology, Biomedical Sciences, Animated Image, Communication Sciences and Communication Design.

These are also joined by Social Education, Sports, Basic Education, Management, Management (night), Hotel Management, Marketing, Tourism, Management (Portimão), Dietetics and Nutrition, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy and Biomedical Sciences Laboratories.

The latter, by the way, is the course with the highest entry average. The last placed student had 164,4.

In the opposite pole, there is a course, at UAlg, in which no student has entered: Food Engineering.

For the rector Paulo Águas, the positive results that the University of the Algarve has once again achieved are explained by three major factors.

“First, the maintenance of a high level of demand, which reflects the importance that young people and their families attach to higher education. Secondly, the reinforcement of vacancies that UAlg managed to make again (+250 vacancies, from 1500 to 1750) to meet the expectations of young people and their families to continue their training. Thirdly, the growing recognition of young people and their families for the quality of our teaching».

The Enrollment and Enrollment process for students placed at the University of Algarve will take place between the 27th of September and the 1st of October and is exclusively online.

Classes will start on October 4th.

This year, UAlg will once again make available to new students a helpline +351 289 244 457 (from 9:30 am to 12:30 am and from 14:00 pm to 17:00 pm), to clarify doubts in the online registration process; housing and social action scholarships and student card.
