GNR, Cáritas and the Employment Center join the support center for the homeless in Faro

The Center and Planning and Intervention of the Homeless in Faro is taken as an example of good practice

The GNR, the Cáritas Diocesana do Algarve and the Employment and Vocational Training Center of Faro of the IEFP joined, on the 9th of September, the Center for Planning and Intervention of the Homeless (NPISA) of Faro.

During the ceremony for joining the new partners, two initiatives that are currently working were presented – the TMN – Tua, Minha, Nossa project, which is being developed by MAPS – Support Movement for the AIDS Problem, and aims to insertion of homeless people into society.

During its still short period of existence, a total of 18 users have passed through the two shared apartments promoted by this initiative, six of which have already been integrated into society.

As for the "Legos" project, a partnership with GATO, MAPS, CASA, APF, GRATO, aims to include homeless people, together with the existing network of partners, to promote the implementation of the intervention model integrated of all agents who, in the respective municipality, work with and for the homeless population.

The current application refers to the “Porta Xis1” project presented by the association MAPS - Movement for Support to the AIDS Problem in partnership with the Xis Association – Group for the Promotion and Protection of LGBTI and the Municipality of Faro.

The aim is to sign a protocol for the operation of shared apartments for LGBTIQ + homeless people.

The Center and Planning and Intervention of the Homeless in Faro It is seen as an example of good practices in its operation and intervention in terms of the problem of Homeless People.

Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, says that «this intervention model aims at a proximity follow-up based on a premise of qualification and profitability of human and financial resources, with its importance and usefulness being demonstrated, given the results presented».

With the adhesion of the new partners, the network now has the following entities: Municipality of Faro, Parish Union of Faro (Sé and São Pedro), District Command of Faro – Public Security Police, Foreigners and Borders Service – Regional Directorate of the Algarve
Social Security Institute, IP - District Center of Faro, Help Group for Drug Addicts, Aids Support Movement, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Faro, Factory of the Church of St. Peter of Faro, Church of the Parish Church of São Luís, University Hospital Center of the Algarve, Regional Health Administration of the Algarve, Support Center for the Homeless, Portuguese Red Cross – Delegation Faro-Loulé, European Anti Poverty Network, Cáritas Diocesana do Algarve, Guarda Nacional Republicana de Faro Employment and Professional Training Center of Faro of the Employment and Professional Training Institute.
