Loulé celebrates MED Festival with “InterMEDio”

This will be a special, limited edition event focused on world music

“interMEDio”, a special and limited edition event focused on world music, will take place in Loulé, from the 23rd to the 29th of August, and intends to «link the pre-pandemic period and what is expected to be the MED Festival when the world returns to normality in full».

The resumption of economic and social activity, in particular the more permissible new measures of deconfinement in force since this Sunday, make it possible to carry out this initiative that will certainly "allow the public to satisfy some of the cultural needs felt in the last two years." but also, for the faithful followers of the MED, “it will bring new experiences and unique musical experiences, the result of the constant newness in terms of the artistic projects that arise here”, says the Loulé local authority.

The enclosure will be limited, but framed in what is the territory of the MED and in its ambience, the historic town of Loulé, with a strong presence of elements from the Mediterranean space.

However, given the restrictions defined in terms of capacity, only Palco Cerca, one of the festival's usual 10 stages, will receive shows.

Seats will be seated and, during the seven nights of programming, two concerts are planned per night.

Musical multiculturalism is once again the dominant feature and in the poster of interMEDio, among the 14 artists, there will be nine countries represented.

In addition to the space for national music and new projects, sounds originating from various corners of the world, from traditional roots to the most innovative rhythms and fusions, will also be present.

For the director of this initiative, Carlos Carmo, «interMEDio will be an excellent way to resume cultural and entertainment activity on a large scale in the municipality of Loulé, but already with the eyes set on the future and on the repositioning that is intended for the MED Festival ».

«We have new ideas and concepts that we want to implement in the next editions, but, naturally, we will keep the DNA of the MED Festival and the pillars that have made it one of the biggest world music festivals in Europe», he stresses.

Vítor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé, highlights the importance of this interim event for the recovery and dynamization of the local economy at a particularly difficult time for entrepreneurs.

«It is with joy that we announce the InterMEDio Festival and with it a return to major events, in a more restricted and intimate format, but which will be a promising start and good news for everyone involved, not only in cultural activity, but also for the agents of our economic fabric. For a week the city will gain a new life, still far from what it was before the pandemic, but already with a dynamic that will help business. It is important to say that all this is done with the awareness that COVID-19 still represents a threat and, as such, all health security conditions will be duly taken care of».

InterMEDio's poster will be released in the coming days, and tickets will go on sale at that time.

All news from the event can be followed on the Facebook of the MED Festival.
