Algarve hosts European Championship for golfers with disabilities

The 18th edition of the championship took place at the O'Connor Jnr Course

The Amendoeira Golf Resort (Alcantarilha, Silves) was, for the first time, the stage, from the 21st to the 24th of August, of the European Championship for Golfers with Disabilities of the European Golf Associations.

The 18th edition of the championship took place at the O'Connor Jnr Course, at resort, and had 65 players and their coaches from various countries and 19 EDGA technical team members, in male, female and wheelchair competitions.

«It was with great enthusiasm that we received, at the Amendoeira Golf Resort, the European Championship for Golfers with Disabilities. An event that highlights the importance and quality of one of the resort's three golf courses, designed by iconic golfer Christy O'Connor Jnr», explains Alda Filipe, Director of Sales and Marketing at Kronos Homes.

Richard Kluwen, from the Netherlands, was the winner in the men's wheelchair category with 252 points over 3 laps. The Dutch Daphne Van Houten was the winner in the women's category with a total of 221 in the 3 rounds and Juan Postigo, from Spain, was the big winner with 209 points.

«Our goal was not only to find the best golf course for this championship, but also to ensure the best conditions for them to have social moments and rest close to nature. That's what happened and we are very grateful to everyone for the organization,” said Tony Bennett, president of EDGA and head of the International Golf Federation's Inclusion and Disability Program.
