“Algarvio” Brett Wheeler finished Portugal Downhill Cup in 2nd position

Highlights for elite, veteran and children's Algarvian cyclists

Brett Wheeler, from the Algarve team MCF/Xdream/Município de S.Brás, was 3rd in the last competition of the Portugal Downhill Cup (DHI) presented by Shimano, which was played in Lorvão, Penacova, under rain. With this classification, Brett placed second in the 2021 Cup.

In the elite male category, the cyclist from the Algarve team finished the afternoon's descent 5,386 seconds behind the winner, who was José Borges (BTT Matosinhos Club), with the mark of 2'18''315. The runner beat Gonçalo Bandeira (Individual) by 874 thousandths, after he had led the qualification.

Even so, Gonçalo Bandeira did not let go of the Cup title, which he won with a 193-point advantage over Brett Wheeler.

The Algarvians were also highlighted in children's, whose winner was Nui Tai (Wildpack Algarve Racing).

In the veterans categories, he won Vítor Maior (Individual), in masters 30, but it was Rui Cabrita (Wildpack Algarve Racing) who won the Cup.

Miguel Santos (Wildpack Algarve Racing) won today's race and the ranking in masters 40, as well as José Salgueiro (MCF/XDream/Município de S. Brás) in masters 50, and António Rodrigues (Casa do Povo de Abrunheira), in masters 60.

The only female master to compete in the Portuguese Downhill Cup was Estefânia Cabarcos (Roca Sport Giant Liv), who did not participate in today's competition.

In the female elite, Margarida Bandeira (House of the People of Abrunheira) once again dominated from qualifying to the final, winning today's competition and ranking in the Portuguese Cup. The runner beat her opponents, completing the race in 3'30''750. Sara Ferreira (Maiatos) did 10,611 seconds more than the winner and Joana Nunes (House of the People of Abrunheira), another 20,288 seconds, finishing second and third, respectively.

Rui Freitas (Individual) won among the juniors, with a mark of 2'28''734, which also guaranteed him the conquest of the Portuguese Cup. In male cadets, Nuno Bentes (BTT Pandilhas a Monte) won, with Bernardo Rocha (AEBTT Rio/Mr.Print) winning the Cup ranking. The best juvenile was Duarte Ribas (Bike House DH Team/Guimarães).
