Return to the Algarve à Vela postponed due to the growing number of Covid cases in the region

The competition will take place from September 2nd to 4th

The 28th Algarve Sailing Tour, which was due to start this Thursday, July 1st, was postponed to September due to "growing concern over the number of cases" of Covid-19 in the region.

The decision was taken by the Gym Club of Faro.

«As a club with public utility and with more than 90 years of history, used to developing and promoting sailing events with a strong social component, we are in charge of a deeper reflection in the sense of the social responsibility that is attributed to us; our responsibility and consequent responsibility of those who support us», says the Ginásio Clube de Faro.

Aware of recent developments, in favor of the safety of all involved, moved by the trust entrusted to us as well as solidarity with those who support us (Main Sponsor, Companies, Marinas, Municipalities and Official Entities) attitudes must be firm, objective and transparent, which led to the rescheduling of the test date and consequent individual contact with all the vessels involved in order to obtain a general and solidary agreement», he adds.

Thus, the race will take place from the 2nd to the 4th of September.

«We believe, with the current data that are available, that, at the beginning of September, with a higher rate of vaccination, and the number of cases already more controlled, we will have a better and greater proof, giving due visibility to a Volta ao Algarve à Sail that is intended to be sustained and participatory», he concludes.
