Águas do Algarve company cooperates with the Escola Azul program

Teresa Fernandes highlights the company's work, not only in its areas of responsibility, but also in Environmental Education

Águas do Algarve has just signed a Cooperation Protocol with Escola Azul, an educational program of the Ministry of the Sea, developed by the Directorate-General for the Policy of the Sea, whose mission is to promote Ocean Literacy in the school community and to create more responsible and participative generations that contribute to the sustainability of the Ocean.

This program distinguishes and guides schools that work on themes related to the sea, creating a community that brings together schools, the sea sector, industry, municipalities, NGOs, universities and other entities with an active role in Ocean Literacy.

It seeks to encourage the school community to understand the influence of the Ocean on us and our influence on the Ocean, motivating schools to work the Ocean in a structured, interdisciplinary and vertical way, without being restricted to the classroom context, and with reflex at the social level, either through the involvement of local communities or through the participation of different partners.

The Escola Azul program also integrates multidisciplinary marine education actions in a diversified network of partners directed at Escolas Azul.

Through transversal, innovative and creative learning, a Blue School promotes the development of critical thinking and initiative in students and encourages them to translate their knowledge into effective attitude changes in their relationship with the Ocean.

Águas do Algarve claims to contribute «on a daily basis to the protection of natural resources and preservation of the biodiversity of the ecosystems of our region».

Teresa Fernandes, company spokesperson, points out that «an example of this are also the various projects that we develop in partnership with various national and international entities, throughout the value chain, from the collection, treatment, adduction and storage of water to collection , transport, treatment, reuse and final discharge of the Algarve's Multi-municipal Water Supply and Sanitation System».

The official adds that Águas do Algarve also promotes «the carrying out of Environmental Education actions throughout the year (Photo Contests, Annual Agua Jovem Project, International Water Challenges Congress, School awareness actions, development of digital platforms for environmental education …among many others)".
