Dredging of the Tavira and Quatro Águas bars is already up for tender

Work should cost around half a million euros

The long claimed dredging of the Tavira dam and the Quatro Águas de Tavira area will proceed, following a public tender launched by the General Directorate of Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) on 4 June.

Within the scope of the “Dredging contract for the maintenance of the port of Tavira”, excess sediment will be removed from the port bar and in the contiguous zone of four waters, being deposited in the coastal drift, in order to feed the beaches with a lack of sand », according to DGRM.

The objective is "to restore safety and operational conditions in navigation" at the entrance bar in the Ria Formosa, but also "in the entrance channel and inland area of the port of Tavira", as read in the notice of the tender published in the Diário da Republic.

Those interested in guaranteeing this project, whose estimated cost is around half a million euros, have 30 days to present their proposals, starting on June 4th.

This intervention is "very important for fishing and tourist-maritime activities, in order to reinforce the safety of vessels, crews and passengers in the access channel to the ports of Tavira (Tavira, Cabanas and Santa Luzia)", considered the General Directorate .

In 2018, DGRM "completed the recovery of the nascent breakwater of the Tavira bar, at the time carrying out an accessory dredging in the intervention area".
