Câmara de Lagos joins a cultural project aimed at the elderly

Lagos will support “Memory Guardians – Affective Territories | Social Narratives” with 5 thousand euros

The Câmara de Lagos joined the project “Guardians of Memory – Affective Territories | Social Narratives”, an interdisciplinary project of social inclusion and cultural intervention, aimed at the elderly, promoted by the association “A Caravana Passa”.

The initiative aims to “promote creative aging, social integration and self-esteem of the elderly, especially weakened by the pandemic context, aiming at greater social and territorial cohesion”.

The municipality will contribute five thousand euros to this project, which is also financed by the General Directorate of Arts and two other partner municipalities.

According to the Municipality of Lagos, the decision to financially support the project «had in mind the target audience (the senior community), the methodology used (focused on participation-action and the affective and effective involvement of the elderly in the construction of artistic objects. from their affective memories), as well as the opportunity to place artists and the local community in an intergenerational dialogue».

«With an estimated duration of nine months, the “Guardians of Memory” will involve artistic residencies with the senior community, the joint writing of a script, interviews and a ceremony to present the final object – a short film of documentary fiction – taking place at the Centro Cultural de Lagos in 2022», added the municipality.

The support for this project by the municipality of Lagos is part of the work that has been carried out on several fronts, with emphasis on the Senior Municipal Council, the Office of Support for the Elderly (GAPI) and the “Health” project in Movement”, which have in common the objective of caring, supporting and encouraging the elderly to have a more active, healthy and informed life.
