Vila do Bispo and Tavira will give the planet an hour

Initiative unites millions of people and entities around the world

The lights of buildings and monuments in Tavira and Vila do Bispo will go out for 60 minutes, between 20:30 pm and 21:30 pm on March 27, to mark Earth Hour, an initiative promoted by the non-governmental organization World Wildlife Fund (WWF) that unites millions of people around the world.

In Vila do Bispo, the City Council, which joined the initiative, is going to turn off the lights in the Paços do Concelho and the Cultural Center.

The Câmara de Tavira also joined Earth Hour 2021 and will save 60 minutes of light in the Clock Tower, the Liga dos Combatentes monument and the Castle.

The objective of this initiative is "to turn off the lights all over the world, at the same time, for 60 minutes, in public buildings and monuments in cities, as well as in private residences", framed the Vila do Bispo Council.

"Given that this year's theme focuses on Water and Climate Change, the municipality will also develop activities with 1st cycle students enrolled in the Curriculum Enrichment Activity – Environment, related to the theme in order to improve the knowledge of the little ones about the importance of the environment and the protection of resources», added the Vila-Bispense autarchy, which challenges the population to join this cause.

Last year, thousands of cities in 190 countries participated in this action that erased more than 12.000 iconic monuments and buildings.
