This Tuesday, March 9, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa takes office for his second (and last) term as President of the Republic, in a ceremony that will take place at the Assembly of the Republic, in Lisbon, at 10:20 am.

Once sworn in, the head of state will then go to the Jerónimos Monastery, for the traditional laying of wreaths on the tombs of Vasco da Gama and Luís de Camões and for the homage ceremony to the dead. The President then moves to the Palace of Belém, his official residence.

On an intense day, in the afternoon Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will be in Porto, first for a meeting with Rui Moreira, Mayor, then for an ecumenical ceremony with representatives of various religious denominations present in Portugal, at the Salão Nobre of the Porto City Hall .

At the end of the afternoon, the President of the Republic will pay a visit to the Islamic Cultural Center of Porto.

10:20 am – Arrival of the President of the Republic at the Assembly of the Republic

– Military honors by Honor Guard composed of Armed Forces military personnel: Execution of the National Anthem accompanied by 21 salvo shots and Review of the Honor Guard

10:30 am – Session at the Assembly of the Republic

– President of the Assembly of the Republic declares the session open
– Reading of the Minutes of Election of the President-elect
– Declaration of Commitment by the President of the Republic
– Oath on the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic
– Execution of the National Anthem by the Band of the National Republican Guard
– President of the Republic subscribes to the declaration of commitment
– Reading of the certificate of possession
– President of the Assembly of the Republic and the President of the Republic sign the inauguration
– Intervention by the President of the Republic

11:15 am (approx.) – President of the Assembly of the Republic declares the Session closed and the National Anthem is played by the Band of the Guarda Nacional Republicana

– President of the Republic receives greetings in the Main Hall of the Assembly of the Republic

11:30 am – Leaving the Assembly of the Republic

11:40 am – Departure of the President of the Republic to the Jerónimos Monastery, with Motorized Honor Escort by the National Republican Guard's Security and State Honors Unit

11:50 am – Arrival at Jerónimos Monastery

12:00 – Departure of the President of the Republic to Praça Afonso de Albuquerque, with Honor Escort on horseback by the Security and State Honors Unit of the National Republican Guard

12:15 – Arrival of the President of the Republic at Praça Afonso de Albuquerque

– Military honors by an Honor Guard composed of soldiers from the Presidential Squadron: Execution of the National Anthem; Magazine to the Guard of Honor

12:30 (approx.) – Entrance of the President of the Republic to the National Palace of Belém

– Transfer of the President of the Republic to the interior of the National Palace of Belém by the access ramp to the Pátio dos Bichos accompanied by the Head of the Military House and the Head of the Protocol of State

– Ring of the President of the Republic's entry into the Palace by the Charameleiros of the Presidential Squadron
