Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, has already been vaccinated against Covid-19, she confirmed to the Sul Informação. Vaccination was a “necessary condition” for the mayor to be a volunteer at the field hospital, set up in Portimão Arena.

To our newspaper, Isilda Gomes assured that she was only vaccinated for that reason. The mayor is doing volunteer work, within the scope of the “Virtual Visits” project, in which virtual calls are made between hospitalized patients and their families.

Speaking to the Observer, who released the news, the mayor of Portimão said that the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 was given "two days before" the field hospital opened (January 11) and the second , three weeks later, on the 29th of the same month.

Num post done this afternoon on facebook, the Portimão Chamber explains that the mayor's vaccination was, in fact, a “necessary condition” for her to be a volunteer in this project.

According to the municipality, "on the opening date of the CHUA Arena, all those who exercised functions were vaccinated."

For the rest, this information is in line with what the chairman of the Board of Directors of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve assured this afternoon.

To our newspaper, Ana Castro, who is the daughter-in-law of Isilda Gomes, assured that the information that there are still unvaccinated health professionals working at CHUA Arena, «is not true».

Questioned minutes before by the Sul Informação on this situation, Lacerda Sales, Deputy Secretary of State and Health, who was today in hospitals in Faro, Portimão and CHUA Arena, responded in a generic way: «we hope we can vaccinate everyone at the same time, but this is a gradual and progressive process».

The answer, which may raise doubts, was clarified by Ana Castro, guaranteeing that there are no unvaccinated health professionals working at CHUA Arena.

As for the case of the vaccination of Isilda Gomes, the PSD/Algarve has already made public demands on the Government to “open an inquiry to ascertain all responsibilities”.

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the Social Democrats repudiate the fact that "the vaccination has been agreed by the chairman of the Board of Directors of CHUA, who is a close family member and was recently appointed by the PS Government." in July of last year.

For the PSD, this "leads to the conclusion that there was a deliberate intention, by people with responsibilities in the area of health in the region, to violate the rules of the vaccination plan, seriously violating their professional duties and undermining the confidence of citizens."
