This Monday, the Algarve records 61 new cases of Covid-19, as well as 4 fatalities, according to data from the epidemiological bulletin of today, February 8, which has just been released by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS ).

In fact, since December 28, that is, for almost a month and a half, there were no numbers of new cases as low as this Monday, either in the Algarve or in the country as a whole.

Is that, at the national level, there is also a significant drop in new reported infections, which the bulletin indicates were “only” 2505.

As for deaths, they are also less than those registered in the previous days, totaling today +196. Since January 18, there has not been a similar number of deaths.

These significantly lower new case numbers than in recent weeks and days may result from less testing over the weekend, but they also have to do with confinement, which appears to be working well.

The number of admissions, despite continuing to grow day by day, is now increasing less rapidly. From yesterday's data to today, there are 96 more people admitted to hospitals across the country, for a total of 6.344 admissions. Of these, another 12 were admitted to the Intensive Care Units, where 877 patients are now.

Taking into account that today there are also a large number of recoveries (+6755), this means that the number of active cases has decreased again. There are now a total of 140 644 active cases in the national territory, a decrease of 4446 compared to yesterday's data.

Once again, the region where the situation of new infections is still not at all controlled is Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (which covers the districts of Lisbon, Setúbal, Santarém and part of Leiria). DGS data show that there are +1760 new cases in this region, that is, close to 60% of the national total of 2505 cases.

Far away is the North, with over 379 new infections, the Center, where there are another 177, the Algarve (+61), the Alentejo (+60), Madeira (+58) and the Azores (+10) .

The same applies to deaths: of the 196 registered across the country, 100 occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 38 in the Centre, 32 in the North, 19 in Alentejo, 4 in Algarve and 3 in Madeira. In the Azores, there is no death motivated by Covid-19 to register.

The epidemiological bulletin of the DGS also mentions that there are 180 905 contacts under surveillance across the country, 6535 fewer than yesterday.
