Lagoa is replacing diesel cars with electric vehicles

Vehicles were acquired on a renting basis

The Municipality of Lagoa is replacing diesel vehicles in its fleet with electric vehicles and, since Monday, 17 new vehicles have been circulating, which will support various services of the municipality.

According to the Câmara de Lagoa, the arrival of these vehicles makes it possible to renew the fleet “and to start removing exhausted and less environmentally friendly cars from circulation”.

The Municipality's investment in this exchange of diesel cars for electric vehicles is around 335 euros and has a contribution from the Environmental Fund.

The municipality explains that 'the new vehicles were acquired in the operational rental mode (renting). that these are constantly evolving'.

The initiative, highlights the City Council, «constitutes another step in the construction of “Lagoa, Sustainable City”, the theme defined by the executive body, for the biennium 2020-2021, and the first step so that, in the near future, the fleet of light vehicles, of the Municipality of Lagoa, is made up only of environmentally friendly vehicles».

“This is one of the biggest challenges we take on. It requires strategic concentration on a triple objective: economically efficient, socially equitable and ecologically sustainable development”, highlights Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.

«Aligned with the United Nations (UN), Lagoa is thus implementing measures that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN 2030 agenda», adds the Municipality.

«With the replacement of the car fleet, the Municipality of Lagoa is guaranteeing access to reliable, sustainable and modern energy sources (SDG 7); building a sustainable city and communities (SDG 11) and ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns (SDG 12)”, he concludes.
