34 cage traps, known as pits, which contained about 15 kilos of Carcinus maenas (green crab) were seized in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, during an action that involved seven Nature Watchers from the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF).
The crabs, being alive, were returned to their natural habitat, the estuary.
The Regional Directorate for Nature Conservation and Forests of the Algarve adds that “it was not possible to identify the offenders on the spot”.
