The four teams of Sapadores Florestais from the Association of Municipalities Terras do Infante (Vila do Bispo, Lagos and Aljezur) received a set of tablets to use in surveillance, first intervention in fires, as well as for preventive forestry.
«The tablets are equipped with georeferenced maps, based on the most recent military charts, which, through a GPS signal, allow sappers to know at any time the exact position on the ground, as well as being able to draw the locations and fire fronts, transmitting immediately this information to the operational commands», says the Associação Terras do Infante.
In the period of preventive forestry, which now begins and will extend until around June of next year, “the sappers will be used to mark the areas of intervention, whether they are bands or mosaics for managing vegetable fuel, information that will be compiled and transmitted to the civil protection authority».
