Albufeira has already chosen the winners of the “Colors and Shapes of Our Artists” contest

Prizes will be awarded at the opening of the exhibition in August

Catarina Ramos, with the work “Introspection”, Guilherme Limão with “Dreaming the World” and Júlio Antão with “Resilience” are 2020 winners of the competition “Colors and Shapes of Our Artists”, a biennial event, organized by the Municipality from Albufeira.

This competition, which has been held since 1997, has the objective “to promote and value natural artists or artists residing in the municipality in the areas of painting, sculpture and drawing”.

According to the Municipality of Albufeira, despite the change in the competition rules due to Covid-19, which required that participants could only apply with one work, instead of a minimum of two and a maximum of four from previous editions, the initiative was well attended, with the participation of 30 authors».

The prizes will be handed out at the opening of the exhibition next August.

The competition's jury consisted of Rosa Trindade (painter), Luís Nunes Alberto (craftsman) and Rui Gregório (photographer).

In addition to the three winning works, the works “Fase Negra – A Fragility of Life”, painting, by Sandra Caetano, were also distinguished with honorable mentions; “Silêncio do Mar”, painting, by Sílvia Guerreiro and “Quarantena”, painting, by Fernando Cardoso.

The top three winners will receive cash prizes of 750 euros (1st prize), 500 euros (2nd prize) and 250 euros (3rd prize), at the opening of the exhibition, which is scheduled for next August, at the Municipal Gallery João Bailote, next to the Town Hall.

In addition to the awarded works and those that received honorable mentions, the exhibition will include the following works selected by the competition's jury: “With fragments of my street, the whole is made”, by Joaquim Veiga; “Sorrows”, by Anabela Alambre; “Visions”, by Maria Irene Carolas; “Intersections”, by Fernanda Nogueira; “Siva”, by Sónia Guerreiro; “We”, by Bruno Ceriz; “Bust”, by Alberto Coudel; “Autobiography of a story”, by Alexandre Siqueira; “A Solidão Cidadina”, by André Varandas; “In Search of World Peace”, by Sónia Fernandes; “9 200 000 Km2”, by Hugo dos Santos; “It's Tea Time” by Brian Mehl; “Wild Flowers”, by José Dâmaso; “Golden Leaves” by Hans van Hoogdalem; “Abstract Landscape”, by José Fernandes; “Dom Covid”, by Luís Filipe Romão (Zorba); “Novo Horizonte”, by Taras Panovyk; “Cerro do Malpique”, by Sílvia Serapio; “Susana” António Correia; “Algarve”, by Rosa Barriga Vieira; “Entrelinhas”, by Maria Bárbara Reis, “Sem-água”, by Maria Zélia Ribeiro; “Clave de Sol”, by Ana Luísa Soares and “Reencontros”, by Susana Gonçalves.

The exhibition “Colors and Shapes of Our Artists” will be open to the public at Galeria Municipal João Bailote, from 14th August to 19th September.
