Albufeira marked, last Monday, June 1st, the National Fisherman's Day with the offer of a work of art, by the sculptor Joaquim Pargana, to the Association of Fishing Professionals of this city.
José Carlos Rolo, Mayor, went to the headquarters of APPA – Association of Fishing Professionals in Albufeira, where he symbolically marked the date by offering a stone boat designed by the sculptor Joaquim Pargana.
The mayor took the opportunity to visit the multipurpose space that was inaugurated a year ago and which is now fully equipped, having already received several training actions.
The moment was attended by members of its bodies, namely the president of the APPA board Miguel Reis.
This association, moreover, is developing a campaign to deliver personalized and reusable masks to its members, which began on this day.
This year it was not possible to carry out the usual festivities of the National Fisherman's Day that usually bring together the fishing community and their families, in this space, in an always lively conviviality.
The president showed willingness to continue strengthening ties with APPA, an association that represents the sector and that celebrates an annual collaboration protocol with the municipality.
«Here we have a very pleasant space that values the history of the local community and that is growing in terms of its assets, which are culturally rich. It is a professional class of great importance to Albufeira, not only because they are direct agents in terms of the quality of our cuisine, but also because of the history of this municipality, which has been dedicated to fishing for a long time. We are still a municipality whose economy is based on fishing and tourism», said the mayor.
In addition to the objects, there is also an already remarkable collection of photographs. This multipurpose space, whose inauguration coincided with the date of the National Fisherman's Day commemorations, is also equipped with computer equipment with a projector and screen, where it is possible to show films and photographs alluding to the theme.
It is open to guided tours and hosts meetings, as well as training for its members.
