Local authorities reward initiatives by young people who fight Covid-19 without leaving their home

Applications must be submitted by May 15th

Portugal Participa – Participatory Local Authorities Network launched the “Eu Participo – Without leaving Home” award, aimed at young people aged between 14 and 30, which will reward solidarity and participation initiatives that have emerged in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic .

According to the network of local authorities, the initiative aims to “mobilize young people, in the current context of confinement, for active citizenship initiatives that help prevent Covid-19, recognize the numerous initiatives of solidarity and participation that have emerged in our country, with special focus on the younger generations and «creating an instrument that allows municipalities to communicate with their young people and mobilize them for a different form of participation, while local participatory processes are suspended».

Applications, which must be submitted by May 15, must fall into at least one of the following categories: facilitate the circulation of information useful for the prevention of the Covid-19 disease; contribute to combating social isolation; enhance the voluntary mobilization of community resources to face the crisis generated by the pandemic situation; promote the organization of occupational activities aimed at the community, through the use of new technologies; strengthen community self-organization in support of combating the spread of Covid-19 disease; collaborate with official entities in the prevention of the disease.

The Participatory Municipalities Network will allocate "a monetary contribution to the winning initiative" and "a basket of gifts", offered by municipalities that are part of the Network. The attribution of gifts is extended to practices classified in 2nd and 3rd places.

Winners will be invited to participate in a public ceremony to announce the results and present the prizes.

This ceremony will take place simultaneously with the announcement session of the results of the V Edition of the Good Participation Practices Award.
