Lagos bans Ponta da Piedade to groups of tourists

The face-to-face service at the Municipal Office is also suspended.

Ponta da Piedade, in Lagos, is closed to tourist groups. This is one of the new measures taken by the City Council to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. 

«The areas of strong attraction and influx of visitors, such as the coastal area known as the Costa D'Oiro, can no longer be visited by tourist groups, as tourist buses are now banned from traveling on the road. of access to Ponta da Piedade, from the crossing with Praia da D. Ana, as well as on Avenida dos Descobrimentos, in the section between the roundabout of Ponte D. Maria and the roundabout of Pêndulo», explains the City Council.

The municipality also adopted other measures.

The maximum limitation on the number of customers admitted simultaneously to each of the Avenida and Santo Amaro Markets has already entered into force, seeking to ensure the continued supply of fresh food products to the population, while reinforcing safety conditions, both for sellers and for customers.

Face-to-face assistance at the Municipal Office and other municipal assistance services has already been suspended, with several remote assistance channels being made available, as an alternative, to citizens and citizens.

As a result of this, and also as a way to make the fulfillment of legal and regulatory obligations with financial implications more flexible, in this period in which economic activity registers a slowdown, it was decided to suspend the term of voluntary payment, in person, of all fees, tariffs, prices, rents and other municipal taxes (effective 13/3).

With regard to municipal services of a more operational nature, the collection of monos and greens, identified as non-essential in the general context, was suspended.

In terms of economic activity, the opening hours of food and beverage establishments were limited, and they will only be able to operate until 21 pm at the latest. In order to avoid concentrations of people in public spaces, the Chamber also decided to suspend licenses for esplanades, exhibitors, street sales and other forms of occupation of public streets.

In terms of traffic, a restriction on the Frente Ribeirinha car park was implemented, the use of which is now exclusive to users with a card/covenant.

The municipality's playgrounds and other types of equipment such as bio-healthy parks, skate parks, outdoor gyms (Mata de Barão de S. João) and gymnasiums are now prohibited from use. street workout (located next to Escola Secundária Júlio Dantas), as well as public restrooms.
