Covid-19: Monchique and Olhão have first cases, there is one recovered in Portimão

Data are from the daily bulletin of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve

The municipalities of Monchique and Olhão have the first confirmed case of Covid-19, according to data from the bulletin this Friday, March 27, just released by the Regional Health Administration (ARS).

Portimão, for its part, registered the first case recovered in the region. However, the ARS bulletin reveals that, after all, there are 16 new infections in the Algarve and not 10, as stated by the Directorate-General for Health. The total is 99.

According to the Sul Informação along with an official source, six of the cases imputed yesterday to the Algarve were of people who, despite having already lived in the region, currently reside in other parts of the country. These six people are the ones that the ARS was unable, yesterday, to determine in which county they resided.

Upon discovering that they were not from the region, the number of infected yesterday dropped from 89 to 83. This justifies that, despite there being 16 new cases today, the increase in the number that appeared in the DGS bulletin was 10.

As for the new cases of today, March 27, they are divided into Portimão (plus 1), Albufeira (plus 2), Loulé (plus 3), Faro (plus 1), Tavira (plus 1) and Vila Real de Santo António (plus 2).

The totals now look like this: Faro (26), Albufeira (22), Portimão (17), Loulé (14), Vila Real de Santo António (5), Lagoa (4), Silves (3), Tavira (2), Monchique (1), Olhão ( 1).

In today's bulletin, ARS Algarve updates the data relating to Silves. According to the Regional Health Administration, two cases, previously reported in this municipality, belong, after all, to Albufeira and Loulé. Hence the number of Silves has decreased from 5 to 3.

In this document, there is also no the death of a teacher, in Portimão, since the data reports to 00:00 today, March 27, and the death happened after that time.

The ARS further explains that there are “4 additional cases, reported in the DGS situation report, of unknown local information”. In other words: there are four confirmed cases in the Algarve, but about which it is not known, for the time being, which councils they “belong to”.

The Regional Health Administration also alerts to the fact that the recovered case from Portimão is not yet in today's DGS report.

According to data from the bulletin, there are 12 people hospitalized, 7 in intensive care.

For the second consecutive day, ARS Algarve does not disclose the number of cases awaiting laboratory results, but there are 642 contacts under active surveillance: 207 in the Barlavento Health Centers Group (ACeS), 413 in ACeS Central and 22 in Sotavento.

There have already been 527 cases that have not been confirmed, that is, they have not been confirmed. In addition to the recovered case, 18 people have already been discharged from the hospital.

Although the ARS bulletin indicates that there is a case in Olhão, António Miguel Pina, mayor, highlighted on social networks that it is “a health professional who had on his record who resided in Quelfes, when in fact he resides in Faro».

As for the case reported in Monchique, the Monchique Newspaper, who quotes José Gonçalo Silva, president of the Parish Council, adds that he is “a sixty-year-old person who is asymptomatic, but who has had contact with a chain of contagion”.

The mayor emphasizes that this patient “has not been in the county for more than 15 days. As the address on the citizen's card is in Monchique, the system assumes that the person resides here permanently».
