More than four million euros at Praia de Faro, about 1,8 million in Montenegro and a cycle path between the airport and the beach. These are the amounts that the Faro Chamber proposes to invest in these two locations in the municipality, in the short/medium term, the vast majority in accessibility.

The Farense parish of Montenegro was highlighted in another edition of Faro Positivo, which took place on Wednesday, the 16th. The executive from Faro took journalists and technicians from the municipality to visit ongoing works in the county and announced future projects, through the voice of President Rogério Bacalhau and architects António Palma and Cristina Gonçalves .

This is the case of the new access bridge to Praia de Faro, the intervention that will require a larger investment: 3,5 million euros.

Like Sul Informação revealed first-hand, the bridge project was reworked, to make the work more attractive to contractors. One of the changes was made at the level of the bridge's arches, "which had very high costs", according to Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro.

The new competition should be launched "by the end of the year".

Still on the beach of Faro, the beginning of the Camping Park's renovation works is on the way. The intervention was supposed to have started on the 1st, but a Provisional Measure presented by the Association of Users and Friends of the Praia de Camping Park Faro (AUAPCPF), which is still under terms at the Administrative Court of Loulé, prevented this from happening.

In this case, the work will cost 430 euros, which will be applied to renovate the space. The Camping Park rehabilitation project, which the Sul Informação already had you made known, foresees profound changes in this space, in relation to what it is today, but without the construction of any new building.

Also in the main bathing area of the municipality, the four public toilets that already existed will be renovated and a new one will be built, in Largo Jacques Cousteau, work that should start next week.

As for the other bathrooms, the one located on Avenida Poente is already under construction. Next is the WC at Avenida Nascente, the one at Largo dos Arcos and the one next to the Surf Club.

In all cases, a bathroom will be installed for people with reduced mobility and a uniform exterior image will be created, with wooden slats, so that the toilets are easily identifiable.

“The issue of toilets was something that we had already discovered for a long time. We started now and we hope to have all remodeled before the summer», said the mayor from Farense.

To all this, we must add the wooden walkway and stairs installed following the destruction caused by the storms, last year, as well as the nine foot washes that will be installed in several places of Praia de Faro.

Road accesses to the Ancão peninsula are also being targeted. In the section between the roundabout of Caranguejo and the bridge, the slope of the road is being replaced. “There was a part of the slope that supports the road that collapsed before the summer. If we did nothing, a bit of road would follow”, he illustrated.

Next Faro Positive, was also focused on the renovation work of the road that connects the roundabout at the Airport to the roundabout at Caranguejo, with the construction of an ecovia 2,4 meters wide and with two lanes and installation of a new roundabout at the intersection of Vale das Almas/Quinta do Eucalipto. This intervention has an estimated cost of 690 thousand euros.

In the town of Montenegro, seat of the parish where Praia de Faro, work is also planned, in this case the renovation of two of the main arteries: Egas Moniz and Bento de Jesus Caraça streets. The works will cost, respectively, 1,2 million euros and 600 thousand euros.

Both streets depart from the roundabout located in the center of Montenegro (Largo do Povo), with the Bento de Jesus Caraça heading towards the EN125 Variant, with which it merges, and the Egas Moniz going down towards the Airport.

These will be “profound interventions for the future”, which will allow more space for pedestrians and improve circulation conditions.

In the case of Rua Bento de Jesus Caraça, this implies that half of the artery (the upper part) is only one-way. In addition to the road renovation, the widening of sidewalks and the elimination of architectural barriers, the intervention foresees the reformulation of the water, sewer, rain and electrical networks, as well as the discipline of parking.

«We are counting on having everything closed by the end of the year, to launch a contest next year», according to Rogério Bacalhau.

In this edition of Faro On the positive side, the works of the crematorium in Faro, who are already underway and that will allow the Algarve capital to have this equipment up and running within 10 months, as well as the intervention of synthetic turf replacement in the Penha Sports Complex.
