Beach of Faro will have camping "open to all" and "with rotation"

Campsite will have lots of lots for tents to ensure turnover, but also that the park is accessible to all.

A campsite “open to all” and in which “turnover is guaranteed”. These are two of the features of the new project camping from the beach of Farothat the Sul Informação shows you here, firsthand.

Our newspaper asked to have access to the project for the construction of the new campsite in Praia de Faro, which is approved and ready to deploy. The Chamber of Faro went in and provided the plan, which you can see below.

The intervention, budgeted at 430 thousand euros, contemplates the total renovation of the space where the Praia de Praia campsite operated for decades. Faro and that in recent years it was being managed and occupied exclusively by the members of the Users and Friends Association of Praia de Camping Park Faro (AUAPPCF).

The project includes the creation of 200 lots for tents and 21 for motorhomes, as well as the afforestation of the space to create shading.

“Most are tents, because the aim is for people to be there for at most a few weeks. We don't want it to be occupied by fixed structures," he explained to Sul Informação Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro.

The option to create lots of lots for tents aimed, on the one hand, to ensure turnover and, on the other, accessibility to everyone. “It is relatively affordable to buy a tent. Buying a motorhome to use for two weeks a year is not for everyone», explained the mayor from Farense.

The new campsite will also have «all the amenities for those who want to spend a few weeks there», namely «a medical center, reception, a laundry, children's playground, a multipurpose space, toilets and showers».

The works should start tomorrow, the 1st of October, but everything indicates that this will not happen, taking into account that the current occupants, who about a year ago received an eviction order from the Chamber, presented a Provisional Measure to the Administrative Court of Loulé, which suspended the taking of possession of the space by the Chamber.

In September 2018, the Chamber of Faro decided to terminate the lending agreement that it had with the AUAPCPF, to proceed with the renovation works of the space, which had long since lost its status as a campsite, due to lack of conditions.

Users were given one year to leave the site, a period well above that required by the contract and the law, until 15 September 2019. Even so, the municipality of Faro granted another 15 days to the users of the space, after of these complain that they would not be able to leave the site "before the end of 2020".

About two weeks ago, the users announced that they would go to court. trying to block the exit from the space, claiming that there were two social cases to solve, of people who had no other housing or means to rent a house, and that there were motorhomes that could not be removed from Praia, as they did not fit on the bridge, whose sides were raised a few years ago to put in water pipes and basic sanitation.

Regardless of the Provisional Measure, of which the Chamber has already been notified, or of any future actions in court, the Chamber of Faro says he will not "change one millimeter" his decision to remove the current users of the space.

«This will be a space open to everyone, upon registration and subject to capacity. At the moment, it is a space that is only used by a few people, as a result of the contingencies verified over the years: due to the fact that it lost its status as a campsite, because it does not have the necessary conditions», summarized Rogério Bacalhau.

As for the doubts raised by the users' association that what would be built on the site was not a campsite, Rogério Bacalhau is specific.

«I have an approved project for a campsite, with all the necessary opinions and authorizations. And that's what it's going to be,” he said.

As for the financial viability of the space, the president of the Chamber of Faro believes that the new campsite will have "very high annual occupancy rates".

«In the summer, it will be aimed at families and people who go to Praia de Faro. In winter, it will be very supportive to the Nautical Center, the surf club and other activities. One of the weaknesses we have at the Nautical Center and at the surf club is that we do not have accommodation. People come to the competitions and would like to stay on the beach, but they have to sleep in Montenegro or Faro. I think it will be an asset not only in the summer, but also in the low season», concluded Rogério Bacalhau.
