Faro requalifies the road to the beach and builds an ecovia

Work will cost 690 euros

The contract for the requalification work of the access road to Praia de Faro and for the construction of an ecovia in the section between the airport and the beach was signed on the 1st of October.

As explained by the Chamber of Faro, the work «has as its main objective the implementation of a cycle lane on the municipal road that gives access to Praia de Faro, in the Aeroporto / Praia section, in the parish of Montenegro».

With this intervention, the municipality intends to «continue the existing cycle path that ends next to the petrol station, formalizing a cycling connection between the airport and Praia de Faro».

The contract also foresees the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of the municipal road with the Arabia/Quinta do Eucalipto road and also the reconfiguration of the entrance to the Rotuda do Aeroporto, which now has two lanes, "to better flow traffic flows".

The work was awarded to Sociedade Manuel António & Jorge Almeida – Construções, SA for around 690 thousand euros and «in addition to restoring the best traffic conditions on the road belt and respective shoulders, it also responds to the growing use of bicycles and other gentle modes. registered in recent years as a means of transport for several citizens and visitors, as well as improving sustainable mobility, promoting sports and reducing polluting emissions, without forgetting the safeguarding of cyclists and pedestrians».

The contract now goes for approval by the Court of Auditors.
