Carlão will talk to students from Silves Secondary School

“Free and Equal” is the project that will embody this session with students

The musician Carlão (the “Pacmam” of the Da Weasel band) will be at Escola Secundária de Silves, this Tuesday, October 8th, to speak with the students of this educational establishment.

The activity, organized by the Municipal Library of Silves, in collaboration with the school, will take place in the auditorium, from 14:30 pm, and is aimed at 9th grade and secondary school students, with a maximum capacity of 150 students.

“Livres e Iguais” is the project that will embody this session with the students, a pedagogical project to promote Interculturalism (developed by the company Betweien in partnership with the musician Carlão, the Associação SOS Racism and the Portuguese Council for Refugees ), which aims to raise awareness and end any type of discrimination based on ignorance and hatred.

This project gave rise to a book, which addresses issues such as Racism, Ethnic Discrimination and Xenophobia, providing readers with the knowledge and tools they need to fight, in themselves and in those around them, discriminatory attitudes and behavior.

It also presents some tools for reflection and self-knowledge, theoretical and legal framework and some statistical data, in addition to three fictionalized stories and the lyrics of three themes set to music by Carlão on these themes. This book will be offered to all 150 students participating in the action.

This initiative is part of the activities foreseen within the scope of the educational offer for schools prepared by the municipality and, in particular, the Municipal Library of Silves, seeking to promote not only reading, but also the values of solidarity and respect for the other for which all citizens must fight.

Carlão is the son of Cape Verdean parents, was born in Angola and traveled to Portugal in the same year of his birth, 1975.

Between 1993 and 2009, under the pseudonym “Pacman”, he was one of the vocalists and the main lyricist of “Da Weasel”.

After the end of “Da Weasel”, in 2010 and 2011, he recorded two albums with the trash/hardcore band “Os Dias De Raiva” and, soon after, embarked on the project “Algodão”.

At the end of 2013, he entered the studio with Fred Ferreira and Regula, and, under his usual name – Carlão -, recorded the album “5-30”, which was released in 2014 and marked a return to sounds closer to Hip -Hop and what he had done with “Da Weasel”.

In 2015, Carlão edited an album under his own name entitled “Quarenta”. The success of the first single “Os Tais”, widely played by the most listened to radio stations in the country, made him immediately requested for an intense concert schedule.

In 2016, together with Boss AC, he created the generic theme of the sociological program “E Se Fosse Consigo”, authored by Conceição Lino.

“Agulha No Palheiro” and “Viver Pra Semper”, the singles released in 2017 and playing on national radio, are the first advances of his second album of originals, to be released in 2018.
